Dancing Through the Decades: 20th Anniversary Ceilidh Celebration
What a night!
Our charity ceilidh was a resounding success, filled with music, laughter, and plenty of dancing. Thanks to the incredible talents of the University of Aberdeen Ceilidh Band and the fantastic warm-up act, A Man Down, the evening was full of energy from start to finish.
Incredible Performances
The night kicked off with A Man Down, a local guitar-driven band that set the perfect tone for the evening. This was their first-ever live performance, and despite some understandable nerves, they absolutely rose to the occasion! Their weekly practice sessions at the Centre paid off, as they delivered a fantastic set that had toes tapping, getting everyone in the mood for the ceilidh to come.
Then, the University of Aberdeen Ceilidh Band took the stage, and the dance floor was never empty again! Their lively tunes and expert calling ensured that even ceilidh novices could join in the fun. From the Gay Gordons to the Strip the Willow, every dance was met with enthusiasm and joy.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible support of our staff and volunteers. From setting up the venue to welcoming guests and selling raffle tickets their dedication made the night run smoothly. Also, a huge thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes - your generosity helped us raise vital funds for our cause.
And to all who came to dance, laugh, and celebrate, you made the night truly special. In particular, the little ones stole the show and showed us all how to make the most of the dance floor with their moves!
While the ceilidh was a great celebration, we can’t ignore the growing challenges faced by charities like ours. The rising cost of living has put increasing pressure on many community organisations, making fundraising events more crucial than ever.
The costs of running the Centre – and events - have surged, meaning we have to work even harder to make ends meet. Additionally, many of our regular user groups and supporters are also feeling the strain, making it more difficult to secure the funding we need to continue our work.
Despite these challenges, the success of our ceilidh proves that community spirit is stronger than ever. Your support - whether through attending events, donating prizes, or simply spreading the word - makes a huge difference.
Now more than ever, we appreciate every contribution, big or small. The ceilidh raised just over £800 - which is amazing! Showing that together, we can ensure that our community continues to thrive, even in difficult times.

Important Notice
It is with disappointment & sadness that we must share some urgent changes we have had to make on how the community accesses the Community Centre going forward. This will be especially important for all our local parents and young people.
As many will know, the Board & Staff have been working hard at the Centre to do our best to ensure that the facility is one that is open and welcoming to all. These have included the first phase of deep cleaning, filling potholes in the the car park and attracting new user groups to join us at the Centre. This concentrated & ongoing effort has seen an increase in the number of members & visitors using the Community Centre. With an increase of traffic, we are also seeing an increased number of young people using the Centre's common spaces without parental supervision.
At first, we took this as a positive, however we are now at the point of being unable to manage the levels of antisocial & aggressive behaviour being aimed at our staff, partners, paying guests, infrastructure & surrounding car park.
This antisocial behaviour includes user groups having their room lets disrupted by unsupervised children, ongoing, repeated & deliberate vandalism of the toilets, aggression & fighting taking place both in the Centre & the car park, & staff & parents reporting bullying & abusive behaviour. This behaviour is not something we should have to ask our user groups, volunteers & staff to manage on a daily basis.
Therefore, the Board with full support from Centre Management & staff have taken the decision that anyone under the age of 16 must be under the supervision of an adult, parent or guardian at all times when within the Centre.
The only exception is when a parent or guardian is dropping off a child to attend an organised event or activity. Any minor entering the Centre without a parent or guardian, will be asked to leave.
We want to continue to encourage users to use the Community Centre facilities, however it needs to be a safe & inviting environment.
We ask that parents share this message with their children & support us to implement this change. If you have any feedback or concerns about this, please feel free to get in touch. We are hoping that this is a temporary measure and that we can work together with the community to find the best way forward.
We thank you for your ongoing support.
The KCC Board and Staff Team
We are looking for new Board members!

Forget Bob the Builder, we have Steve Wright!
Lately you may have seen Steve out in the Community Centre Car Park. Steve, a long serving Board member has worked tirelessly to fill the numerous potholes around the Community Centre. But several users have asked why the Council don't don't fix the potholes?
The Centre & its car park are privately owned and we are responsible for all repairs, so Aberdeenshire Council can't help.
Therefore, a huge thank you to Steve and the several volunteers who stopped to give him a hand. You all made such a huge difference!
(Unfortunately we didn't get a photo of Steve & his helpers, so made one out of LEGO instead!)
Saltire Success at World Event!
We couldn't be more proud of our son Matthew!
Since starting Tae Kwon-do training with Miss Cameron (VI Degree) at Saltire in 2016, he's achieved incredible success and is now almost at black belt!. 🥋🏅
Matthew has won several medals, competing in national and international events and has also won gold, in in a World Championship!

Saltire isn't just about winning medals—although many students have certainly done that! The true impact lies in the development of respect, confidence, and discipline among young members. Kids learn to set goals, work hard, and support each other, fostering a strong sense of community and self-belief. The benefits of training at Saltire are immense, helping children grow into respectful, confident, and resilient individuals.
